The Recipe(s)

Potluck Pepperoni Bread On some nights homemade pizza just takes a little too long to make. However, when you're jones-ing for pepperoni, cheese and bread, you might consider making Suzi's Potluck Pepperoni Bread. This yummy bread was taught to Suzi by the best cooks in the world, her family. Perfect for potlucks, parties or for your family, this is definitely the recipe everyone will be asking for afterwards.

There are really no set ingredients for what to put in the pizza bread. We used pepperoni and mozzarella. Another favorite of Suzi's is to substitute spinach as a vegetarian alternative. You can use any variety of veggies including broccoli, artichokes, asparagus, zucchini, etc. The cheeses are pretty standard. Mozzarella’s a given, but you could mix in some fresh parmesan or ricotta for a change. As for the meat toppings there are many ingredients that work well; Pepperoni, Canadian bacon, ham, Italian sausage, etc. The creative possibilities are endless!

Tips & Tricks

When choosing a cheese for Potluck Pepperoni Bread, you can't go wrong with mozzarella. However, you may want to try provolone, parmesan, pepper jack or a combination of several varieties of cheeses.

If you are looking for an alternate meat with less fat try substituting turkey pepperoni or cooked ground chicken sausage as an ingredient.

For a meat less version think lots of vegetables. For example fresh spinach, artichokes, mushrooms, roasted red onion, or broccoli for a vegetarian take on this delicious treat.

After baking, let the bread cool for 15 minutes before cutting it into thick slices. Serve warm, with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Allrecipes' cook, Suzi Originally from Bloomfield, NJ Suzi moved to Charlotte, NC six years ago. Married and a mom to four year old son Michael, and a foster parent to twin 6-month old girls, Suzi is kept quite busy. She considers herself an "expert eater and lover of food" but because she does not want to spend hours on a treadmill nor has the time she created her own baking nitch with low-fat cakes. From moist muffins that are nut-and cholesterol-free to her signature chocolate square cake, she makes it possible to eat your cake and not feel guilty! But Suzi's talent doesn't stop at healthy, low-fat cakes. She can make comfort food with the best of them and her Potluck Pepperoni Bread is both a weekly and a holiday favorite with her family.

This week finds us in Charlotte, NC. As we were filming an upcoming webisode for Birthday Blessings (a volunteer-led nonprofit organization bringing joy and support to homeless children in numerous ways) we were introduced to Suzi, a volunteer partner for Birthday Blessings, who regularly can be found creating and delivering her delicious desserts to these deserving kids.

We discovered in the process that Suzi also had a fun recipe to share with our "What's Cooking?" fans, her family-favorite, Potluck Pepperoni Bread. It is great year round and especially during the holidays when you are looking for something quick and easy to serve or take to a holiday party. This is a simple recipe and is so easy to customize. You can make it over and over with no two versions being alike.

As we quickly assembled the dish, every time the camera changed views, Suzi and I were quick to make a costume change into different “FESTIVE” UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS. We had a ton of fun doing this and purposefully didn't mention it once during the taping. Keeping with the spirit of the holiday theme when we sat down to finally taste and eat the Potluck Pepperoni Bread, Suzi served me some cold Egg Nog to go along with it. I'd never had Potluck Pepperoni Bread as holiday fare and surely never had them together, but our webisodes are always great for a lot of firsts!

Happy Holidays all and thank you, Suzi for a ton of fun in North Carolina!
