Allrecipes.com "What's Cooking?"

As the year draws to an end, we look back to revisit some of the main events and highlights of this past year. 2010 has been an exciting year for video in general and for all of us at Allrecipes.tv and "What's Cooking?". As we close the books on a great year, we want to take a moment to look back at some of the highlights.

Looking Back

2010 was a year full of news and events. Apple released a much-anticipated member of the family -the iPad. "Lost" fans were finally told what really happened on the island. Extreme weather and natural disasters brought life to a standstill throughout much of the world: earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, volcanic eruptions in Iceland, and record floods in parts of America and Asia. The BP disaster. The Large Hadron Collider finally came online and scientists captured some antimatter. In sports we shared the Winter Olympics and were glued to the TV watching the World Cup, when soccer fans, seasoned or fledgling, took a 30-day summer break to witness an exciting clash of titans.

While 2009 was the year of Susan Boyle and "David After Dentist", 2010 also had its gems in video including Sea Turtle with Camera, Double Rainbow, Annoying Orange, the Old Spice Man, Paul the Octopus, and 13 year old Greyson Chance wows a talent show! On June 7th, Allrecipes.com launched Allrecipes.tv, a platform to showcase our collection of "How-to", instructional, and entertaining videos. July saw the launch of "What's Cooking?", an original web series created to highlight the cooks who have contributed the most-loved content on Allrecipes. In each webisode, an Allrecipes' home cook shares the tips, tricks, and stories behind their amazing dishes. We also took some interesting detours including the "Make-Ahead Mamas", Cookies Across America, and two live webcasts from our kitchen in Seattle, Washington!

Throughout our first season, we saw a lot of firsts. Cupcakes became their own food group. We "flipped the flan". 8 moms showed America how to make food ahead for their families and have fun doing it. I ate alligator in New Jersey and a Bacon (artery) Explosion in Detroit. From coast to coast, we made cookies for those less fortunate. And I became a member of every frequent flyer program available. 2011 will surely also be a year of firsts. As Edith Lovejoy Pierce said,

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

Thank you for being a part of the Allrecipes.com community in 2010 and we welcome you to be a part of putting words on the pages in 2011. We promise we have a lot more in store! Happy New Year!
